Facebook event for updates.

THE VELVET HANDS

Front Page News for TheZineUK doc’s latest picture book

“We could be witnessing the emergence of another great British band. Jaw droppingly good.” (GigSlutz).

The classically crafted Strokes-y, Stones-y quartet with overtones of The Undertones, live on stage.

"Every single they've put out so far is an instant hit as far as I'm concerned" (John Kennedy, Radio X).

Debut LP, 'Party's Over' (2018) was a BBC Radio 1 album of the week. Gigs with Liam Gallagher, Fontaines D.C., The Bluetones, Paul Weller, multiple festivals and sold out shows, The Velvet Hands are on a roll.

Born enterainers, lockdown couldn't stop them. A 2020 Tik Tok rock pick with self deprecating humour last year also included a BBC TV interview, the OBTV launch plus being cited "catchiest song of the year" with 'When This Is Over' (the Music Venue Trustsingle). The chorus rings true on band holiday monday!

2021 began with the limited edition 'Live At The Amersham ' album for Independent Venue Week, then a slot on uber “on-it” new weekly TV, Get On! Latest single, 'Star' is a glam pumped, iron fisted acerbic look at celebrity culture on one hand which is featured on TV's ‘Made In Chelsea’ on the other. The Velvet Hands BREAK OUT with a goldmine of decibelled fun before their Autumn tour.

THE NOVUS

OMG it's been TOO long since catching the grand sound of The Novus, live.

"The most powerful thing to come out of Birmingham since the industrial steam engine" are no ordinary star shaped force of supernature, these maverick instigators are a living rock art installation.

Making every stage feel huge, the Midlands quartet are creating their own world (even building a venue and huge warehouse event from scratch in 2019).

They graced a live stream from a church to round off 2020 (when they were also the nation's No.1, sold out, social-distanced tour attraction of the year).

In 2021, The Novus are just warming up. Never standing still as this recent, insightful King City interview article by published author, Stephen Pennell, notes.

With perfect timing, BANK HOLIDAY BREAK OUT precedes the June release of debut EP ‘Thaleia Standing’ (12” of translucent-purple vinyl desire). The first, dark-mauve audio powered single, 'I Serve Not', has a trilogy of alternate videos. This one is by Rosie Mulhern.

The Novus. A darkly dramatic punky show. In a theatre. We want it.

GABI GARBUTT

Essential to the rising new music stories, the widely acclaimed punk-poet released her debut album ‘The Discredited Language of Angels’ in November 2019. “Plenty of power and soul” (Louder Than War)

With her band, The Illuminations, Gabi's toured UK and Europe with both The Libertines and Edwyn Collins. In October 2021 they’re back on the road, supporting The Boomtown Rats.

Before then, Gabi treats us to this intimate acoustic show that comes BBC 6Music Radio recommended: "This will be amongst the best new tunes you hear all day, all week, maybe even ever” (Chris Hawkins) “Lyrically ...at a level you rarely hear… consistently brilliant and unpredictable.” (Gabi performed live on Cerys Matthews’ show)

Captured in TheZineUK's December 2020 picture doc, 'Your Time Is Now', lovely Gabi is another of the golden threads woven into this music movement tapestry.

UK PAINT HORSE

Alt rock buzz-baubles, a new band charm your indie sensibilities. 20th century time travel tones with 21st century suss.

Their singer claims to be from Earth, the jury's out at TheZineUK towers but it makes us love beaming smiler, Peggy, even more.

We caught the band being cool and groovy live on stage at the start of 2020,

A lot has happened since then and it will be a thrill to catch them again, as part of this next world.

BANK HOLIDAY BREAK OUT is the first of in a series of Summer and Autumn 2021 shows that the UK Paint Horse have just announced.

Your happy place awaits.

TAMESIS

Psychedelic rock coven, Tamesis have a bewitching sound which adds festive psychedelia to the matinee. Through the curtains, step into our dream.

Named after the Celtic goddess of the River Thames, #SELondon’s Tamesis are crossing the capital’s waterway to perform at The Grand Order of Water Rats HQ. A British entertainment industry fraternity and charitable organisation founded in 1889 by music hall comedians, the order is known for benevolent works. It makes sense that a band who released ‘Season Of The Witch’ at the end of last year bring magickal positivity to our proceedings.

HANNYA WHITE

“Hello you want to be my friend Come, let's play”

From Hannya White’s Spring 2021 EP ‘No Preview’, the otherwordly sounds of ‘Be My Friend’ come from a beautiful place in our multiverse.

BREAK OUT DJ hosts are LIAM JAMES WARD and DISCO MARKY

It was a no-brainer when music industry lej, Andy Winters of There's A Riot Goin' On, invited TheZineUK to co-pro a music sociable like this. Friendly cross-breeding interdependence fuels our precognitive tale. From this BREAK OUT, new futures will be made. Trust. Scene making DJs Disco MarkY (a cast and crew member of this doc already) and Liam James Ward will soundtrack this gathering/moment and weave 31st May 2021 into this tapestry. Will we see/exchange our first DIY flyers in yonks? Be seeing you?

(Yeah we're really going to the p u b !)
