2014

Simon Price DJs TheZineUK at The Alt Escape 2014

TheZineUK (documentary of art rock situationism trickle up tales) launches in a grass roots music venue - The Alley Cat - on Tin Pan Alley (Denmark Street, Soho). Diverse by whimsical nature, it’s a kinetic and kismetic fusion of Punk, Poetry and Playing Class Friends.

Marching against austerity on the way to host an official stage at the final Camden Crawl Festival, midsummer's day 2014

2014 - something in BritainIreland’s music loving air?

Independent Venue Week and Music Venue Trust came into being around then. Along with Featured Artists Coalition these representative, music industry organisations are golden threads in the tapestry increasingly weaved by artists and allies. They even give our DIY documenting the time of day!

2024 - A lot has changed, come and gone since then

Climate anxiety grows amidst mainstream propaganda’s divisive rhetoric. The bleakness of our grassroots music sector amidst this insane “reality” and the ongoing heist (a.k.a. “austerity”) afflicts the mental health of most people, our myriad “live and let live” communities. We have witnessed some of the talented potential through an alternative rock lens pulsing a newer wave of hope. Music Tourism For The People is an existing society and a viable economy boost.

TheZineUK?

Working class led with alliances from any background welcomed. Inclusion is the DNA of uniqulture’s industrious arts movement. Sometimes we gatecrash but are gateways not gatekeepers.

We don’t have a million quid to spunk on a dream art gallery installation so ArtfulFest is wish-listing. but the connected talents propel new futures.

 A Decade Story

Resistance to wrong ‘uns - with stage style. DIY as necessity not fad. Diversity in adversity. Joy sharing as we know it’s only rock and roll, but we like it. Songs and gigs keep seeding a visibly fertile environment despite life’s collective backdrop of a hostile one.

2017: Snapshot. New music photographers get an opportunity in the photo pit of the Electric Ballroom, courtesy of This Feeling who celebrate eighteen years of growing/glowing on the grassroots music venue circuit and beyond, this Artful month. It's not just the artists who they develop and support. Many of their audience are a genuine community.

How It’s Going…

For non “establishment-approved, straight-white-males”, the rise of the far right additional stress. They  want to lynch us or burn us alive (2024’s Farage Riot pogroms are not forgotten by everybody). Shh, don’t say “dystopia” or “genocide”.

Sigh. Most of us are just everyday people who want to stay well enough to be at sufficient ease to sing and dance. The simple life is not much too ask for every human. Bless the uplift of music…

The Hearts Council have ART at heart.

Arts are essential lifeblood ARTeries. Self expressed pleasures should not increasingly be for the posh. ArtfulFest resists, celebrates and co-creates. Are you with us? Even a little bit?
