Support Auld Reekie Nocturne: Natasha Kitty Katt's Dark History Through Sound.
Our zeenager tapestry is full of boundary-pushing artists, and our DJ Natasha Kitty Katt stands out as one of the most innovative artists we’ve featured. For those following us since ZineUK Year 0, you've watched as we’ve documented our spooky deck kitten rise, rise and rise. Her haunting disco sounds have appeared on prestigious labels like Glitterbox, Paper Recordings, and Whiskey Disco, plus even her own Ghetto Disco Records (Sistahs doing it for ourselves, or what?). She can be found casting spells on dance floors from Hï Ibiza to Ministry of Sound and House of Yes NYC.
Now she is creating a 10-track concept album exploring Edinburgh's most chilling historical events from 1440 to 1832. Each track transforming a different dark chapter of the city's past into an immersive electronic, spooky soundscape that promises eerie synths and ghostly echoes - Edinburgh’s ‘haunting answer to Tubular Bells and John Carpenter.’
Just some project features:
A limited-edition zine with historical insights and original artwork
A music video for each key theme
Public events including listening sessions and workshops
A PR campaign sharing the work across Scotland and beyond
Her previous album "Synaptic Juice" showed her gift for narrative-driven production, especially "Batt Danse" – her collaboration with Billy Wirth from The Lost Boys that explored vampiric themes through dark electronic sounds. We write about it here.
"Auld Reekie" (meaning Old Smoky) has been Edinburgh's nickname since the 1600s, referring to the thick smoke from coal fires that once filled Old Town. This project lets listeners experience history as something felt, not just read.
"History isn't just something you read. It's something you feel."
Join us in supporting the crowdfunding campaign to help transform Edinburgh's haunted history into an immersive sonic experience that honours the great city's past while once again Natt pushes electronic music into new territory.
