Music Industry Soccer Six 21 May Mile End Stadium
Football! Music!
An even more beautiful game!
Born into the rock n roll side of Britpop, over the years, sporting music tournament pioneers, Soccer Six, became the biggest celebrity football match.
With women’s teams for over twenty years and enough anecdotes for a book and documentary, a fun day outdoors has become part of entertainment’s culture. Yes to pandemic escapism.
Recently: Radio, TV, Film, Models, DJs, Presenters and athletes have united on the pitch as it became more of a celeb heavy, pop music event. Beyond ye olden days of autograph hunters, the supporting audience for the matches clock up a load of #SoccerSixFest selfies on the day.
Follow/Support/Cheer the bands! Seeya there?
Since 2017, especially, there’s been a zeitgeist on the up n comer rock, punk and popstar shaped talents.
Injections into the events enormous heritage that year, included Tom Grennan, Emily Capell, Bang Bang Romeo, Modupe and Indie Cup Winners, The Assist.
#TheZineUK Doc piccy book snaps from that day: ‘Grandchildren Of The Revolution’. Bring back such smiles and affection. 2022 needs that!
Like a sports day for bands, promoters, labels and networking, Soccer Six belongs in our music movement story of these times.
Movement is the literal word with the above, and more of the names, who were there on the day.
Monefa and Dizzy (pic 1 of 2) didn’t play on the pitch but in 2020 became released recording artists in their own right.
Take a closer look and listen at what 2022’s musicians are achieving in the studio and on stage!
Standing up in pic 2 of 2: West Midlands and East Midlands representing. Fitzroy Holt and Tommy are now both recording and touring artists who are making a definite mark on 2022. There’s always a nod of respect to our friends, This Feeling. One of the interdependent live music promoters who are woven into uniqulture’s magick.
Soccer Six took a break during lockdown and returns on 21st May at Mile End Stadium with a fresh #SoccerSixFest twist.
Fresh beginnings. 21st May kicks off (yeah, I said what I said!) new joys. Fusing social media influencers, tipped musicians/buzz lables in the celebrity mix, boldly goes (much needed) next level unity.
AND…acknowledges climate emergency - #LoveTheWorld environment hero scientists/presenters on the pitch … embraces and highlights the local community’s Mile End Community Project … celebrates the music industry’s key new additon, Echotown Studios, a sponsor for this ace all dayer … and, back to guitar band roots, focuses on a brace of alternative rock’s (self-proving) Ones To Watch
The event has been in TheZineUK story since Chapter 1 of our picture diary (Heather Minx got us press passes to see the prowess of Pete Doherty and more at The 02 Soccerdome/David Beckham Academy. The day is so “best side of these isles” tradition for a nation who grew up with jumpers as goalposts while making a song and dance about everything. Sounds about right as a heritage.
#TheZineUK doc has woven the music industry CUP Soccer Six events into this tale of under the radar rock roll dreams and by 2022 a mix of friends and faves are on the pitch for an event which has created an array of collaborations, long lasting friendships and even a few marriages, so far! Follow the stories of what happens next via the #SoccerSixFest tag on socials.
CUP Soccer Six has traditonally championed, encouraged and nurtured all gender talent with an ear to raising new music as well as spirits. It's coming home – back to Mile End Stadium. 25 years later still excited. Live music, football, legendary ex-players, TV celebrities and socialising - what’s not to love?

Because of C19 safety as well as limited creation time, rebooting from scratch feels extra intimate and special. Have a great day, all! Don’t need to tell you that this is just the start of more next level goodness! There needs to be a selfies-champ cup tho!!! Saturday What a go on, Lou?
