TheBigBadSad.’s (all one word, full stop at the end.) Shake Me Down was that track. For a band who are adamant not to be compared to other bands, I am perhaps at risk of incurring the wrath here when I say it gave me echos of bands I used to hear at early Cave Club nights (RIP Buffy Bar, we love you). That Mecca for us Gothy teens who didn’t quite catch the indie wave. Anyway, talking of a rabbithole, I was soon recommending Venus De Milo, The Loot and others to everyone that would listen, and booking a train down to Bristol to see self-styled gloom rock goth cowboy’s TheBigBadSad live, dragging Opia Photos all the way from Scotland to document the adventure.

Bah, Humbug. It’s Love Month. Luckily there’s 14 tracks in ‘ere that’ll warm my cold, dead heart for a bit.

It’s been a super busy start of 2024 here at TheZineUK, Caff documented a just a week of it in the previous article.

These playlists get more and more eclectic but… For the most part this playlist was chosen and curated before the Government Report exposing sexism in the music industry (Stating the obvious?), but I clearly had caught an angry wave with my choices this month…

Inviting the Light - Patrick Jones

At the start of the month, Patrick Jones contacted us for a review of his new hybrid poetry release (both book and spoken word with music recorded with two fellow welsh musicians: Ethan Jones (his eldest son) and James Jones (no relation.)

Of course Caffy and I jumped at the chance. Patrick is the common thread that weaves though every story of TheZineUK. The issue was, how to find the words. Something Patrick always seems to do with ease, and provide for us, but something that we were lost on for a while.
