This year’s edition focuses on the increasingly relevant and democratic need to resist and rebel, culturally and politically. This is very much on the wavelength of TheZineUK documentary and we are pleased to be part of this.
“Bringing together acts from around the world at a time of great polarisation is a political act in itself—especially given our platforming of both Palestinian and Taiwanese artists,” says co-founder Mark of 122 Music Management, the British music company which founded and runs 24:1900 Fest
“At the risk of stating the obvious, finding a Palestinian act to play 24:1900 was a challenge. Before alkalsaat, we had another Palestinian artist who had to withdraw over fears that our association could cause issues at Israeli checkpoints. They feared that visits home to their families could be jeopardised, underscoring the harsh daily realities Palestinians face.”
The festival also highlights other battles facing musicians.
Following news that the former Spotify CEO invested in AI military, a growing number of mainstream artists are removing their music from the platform in protest. That movement continues apace while Spotify host ICE adverts etc. (Their army recruitment ads have constantly jarred violently with the concept of listening to music).
Independent artists, meanwhile, continue to face longstanding issues: from unfair compensation from streaming services to the ongoing crisis in live music with so many venue closures
24:1900 gives independent artists a platform to resist and challenge the music industry normalities.
This festival is a space to reclaim creative direction and for artists reach listeners who may never have encountered their work before.
It’s true. last year, TheZineUK found and followed some new names: “OK, now I've travelled (sonically) to Indonesia where "jazz-pop prog-funk powered rock music trio" #madmadmen are wild and layering on wilder!”. Transmission Suite are another new find.
Here’s to discovering new inspirations at #241900fest 2025.
Over the 24 hours of streaming, the audience can dip in and dip out. Having a ticket gives access to watch the live sets until Spring, alongside various personal perks.
2024 worked. 2025 steps up…
TheZineUK caught up with the band Still Traffico who kicked off this world wide phenomenom with a 7pm GMT show in December 2024.
“We had a lot of fun opening 24:1900 last year. We recorded our set at Paper Dress Live in Hackney, the very same venue where we first met Mark and Mike of 122Music Management two years before. We’re cut from the same cloth as them as far as making music goes: build it all yourself and make the thing happen. For our live set we put the gig on ourselves, got our pals in The Outers to play too, our friend Tom recorded the live set to be broadcasted for 24:1900. Mark & Mike did the rest, building a 24-hour online set for music lovers from nothing. It’s a privilege to be managed and championed by them”.
Fast forward to 2025 where the brand new and gorgeous Still Traffico single -‘Full Speed Ahead, Barcelona’ - is being championed on the UK’s highly rated Louder Than War Editor’s Choice Radio Show Still Traffico will play legendary landmark venue, The Hope and Anchor on 12th February.
Not long now…
During the 24 hour music festival, the wider music community get to promote themselves for free!
24:1900 Music Festival will broadcast music advertisements and promo clips between each set. It makes a refreshing change to have grassroots and independent artists and their allies getting their shout-out to the world.
24:1900 is more accessible AND environmentally sustainable…
…making it a festival for all to celebrate music.
“If you want to support quality independent music and help artists resist and rebel, 24:1900 is a great place to start," adds Mark from 122MM. “Because the fight is global.”
