Family Jools, 'U Got It Going On'

Video Premiere : Family Jools are a one-off. Britain’s grooviest band have really got it happening with their new single and video ‘U Got It Going On’.

The video could be of a band from any century, fittingly for the individual, classic guitar band sound of Family Jools.

"I don't really hear a lot of records like that at the minute. Definitely something of the 70's about it. Which sets it apart from a lot of things happening now."

said Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 Music radio, when playing their recent single, ‘Sisters’.

Freshly released now, ‘U Got It Going On’ is already hitting key playlists.

TheZineUK documentary has seen Family Jools develop over the last few years into the musical force who were due to play SXSW earlier this year.

They’ve stayed prolific and performing through lockdown and are heading for a special show at Amersham Arms where those lucky enough to have a ticket get to hear ‘U Got It Going On’ and a set of tunes (that wouldn’t be out of place on BBC TV’s Later With Jools), live. It’s the band’s first live outing since March!

This video feels like it straddles both centuries of rock as much as the band’s rootsy psychedelic sounds do.

Validly titled, ‘Turn Off All The Screens’, follows The New Consistent’s debut EP - ‘Individual Social Accounts And Commentary’ which was released in March, featured three tracks produced by Austin Williams of Swim Deep and was credibly well received.

TNC has been compared to Loyle Carner, Rhythm Method, Kofi Stone and “The Streets Mike Skinner, with a Generation Z perspective”. This debut also earned the twenty year old singer and producer a ‘Rising Star’ nomination at the Birmingham Music Awards.

‘Turn Off All The Screens’ settles it’s lo-fi beats into your head insistently with a naggingly sweet synth melody. It’s a challenge to the mental health issues experienced by youth living through dystopia. “the pressure’s got too much…” Charlotte Lennon adds additional vocal to The New Consistent’s lilting rhymes and incisive lyrics of self-reflection and reassurance.

TNC describes it as “a reflection of my coping mechanism after such a difficult time and a reminder to myself that I am moving in the right direction and there is no harm in stepping back and taking a break from all the screens that seem to dominate my and everyone else’s world”.

As the Midlands is a cosmos of the new music industrial (r)evolution and collaboration, Raw Sound TV also a newly uploaded live performance of ‘Turn Off All The Screens’.

The New Consistent will play live shows in May 2021 at Manchester Castle (8th) and Birmingham Deadwax Digbeth (14th).
